NIC Local has achieved significant sustainability improvements through its partnership with Bunzl, reducing carbon emissions, single-use plastics and virgin plastic consumption while supporting ESG goals.
The latest sustainability reporting highlights a substantial reduction in carbon emissions and plastic usage, reinforcing NIC Local’s commitment to responsible procurement and environmental stewardship.
Between 1 June 2025 and 31 May 2026, NIC Local achieved a carbon intensity of 20.4kg CO2e per £1,000 spend through its Bunzl supply partnership, improving from 26.6kg CO2e in the previous reporting period. This represents a 23.6% reduction in carbon intensity and equates to approximately 664kg of CO2e emissions avoided from deliveries year-on-year.
The environmental benefits extend beyond transport emissions. During the reporting period, NIC Local also:
- Reduced single-use plastic consumption by 15kg
- Avoided the use of 374kg of virgin plastic
- Achieved an additional 409kg of CO2e emissions savings through sustainable product choices
The most significant reductions in plastic consumption were delivered through the use of more sustainable floor mopping products, cleaning chemical liquids and floor maintenance pads.
These results demonstrate the positive impact that sustainable purchasing decisions can have across the facilities management and cleaning sectors. By providing detailed sustainability reporting, lower-impact product alternatives and expert guidance, Bunzl has enabled NIC Local to make informed choices that reduce environmental impact without compromising service delivery.
